Establishing Web & File security

You can prevent unauthorized access to your Web & File Server and maintain Web & File Server security through a number of safeguards.

This section tells you how to

      Create share points
Make hard disks, CD-ROM discs, and folders available to file sharing clients
    Set access privileges
Privileges and user categories, how to set explicit access privileges, adopted access privileges, and change privileges of enclosed folders
Use other techniques to control access
Restrict registered users' password use, lock folders and files, copy-protect files, and limit program use

IMPORTANT: The features described in this section cannot substitute for the security you gain from physically isolating the computer. If you plan to store highly confidential information on the computer, the best way to secure that information is to put the computer in a room that can be locked. If no such room is available, you may want to use a program that locks the screen (requires you to enter a password when the keyboard and mouse have been inactive for a short time). Some screen savers have this feature.

For more information about securing a network connected to the Internet, see the TCP/IP Connections tutorial in the Tutorials folder on your AppleShare IP 6.2 CD.
