Web & File troubleshooting–AppleShare file sharing performance

Mounting CD-ROM volumes takes a long time.

Files on CD-ROM discs are often organized into hundreds of nested folders. If you assign explicit access privileges for folders on a CD-ROM disc or for the CD-ROM disc itself (for instance, by clicking the Enclosing Privileges button in the Disks & Share Points window), mounting a volume on a CD-ROM disc can become very slow.

You can improve access time by setting the folders on a CD-ROM disc to adopt their access privileges from their enclosing folders. See Setting adopted access privileges.

Users say that the Web & File Server is too slow.

Make sure users are not running applications on the Web & File Server. If they need to use an application, they should install a copy on their hard disk.
Make sure users' computers have the latest Mac OS system software and AppleShare Client software is installed.
Make sure users connect via TCP/IP (check the GetInfo window for a mounted server volume on client computers).
On the Web & File Server Activity page, set the Maximum to a higher percentage. This provides more processing power for users connected to the Web & File Server. For instructions, see Allocating processing power.
    Check for network problems.

For more solutions, go to the server and open AppleShare IP Help.

Response to mouse and keyboard input on the server is slow.

On the server, quit any programs that are not being used. If this doesn't help, on the Web & File Server Activity page, set the Maximum to a lower percentage. This reserves more processing activity for other programs.
Adjust the amount of RAM available for other programs. See Limiting the size of the cache.
