AppleShare file sharing services

Enable or disable file sharing over TCP/IP

You can allow users of AppleShare Client software to log on to the Web & File Server over TCP/IP. AppleTalk connections are always available.

You can also provide AppleTalk service on multiple network segments using the multihoming feature of Open Transport. For more information, see Using AppleTalk multihoming.

To turn on and off AppleShare file sharing services over TCP/IP connections, follow these steps:
1 Log on to AppleShare IP Remote Admin.
    2

    Click the File server button.

3 Click the Server Settings button.
4 In the Server Settings list, click AppleShare.
5 Select the "Enable File Server Clients to Connect over TCP" checkbox.
To turn off this feature, deselect the checkbox. Any clients who are connected using an access method you disable are immediately disconnected.
6 Click the Save button at the bottom of the window.

Creating the AppleShare client log-on greeting

You can create a greeting that users of AppleShare Client 3.0 or later see when they log on to the Web & File Server. (Users of older versions of the AppleShare Client software cannot receive this greeting. In addition, Web site visitors and some non-Mac OS users cannot receive any messages.)

Note: Users who log on to the Web & File Server via FTP receive the greeting that's stored in the FTP logon greeting file. For more information, see Editing FTP messages.

To create or edit the AppleShare client log on greeting, follow these steps:
1 Log on to AppleShare IP Remote Admin.
    2

    Click the File server button.

3 Click the Server Settings button.
4 In the Server Settings list, click AppleShare.
5 Type a greeting in the File Server Log On Greeting box.
You can type up to 200 characters.
6 Click the Save button at the bottom of the window.
The next time a user logs onto the Web & File Server using AppleShare Client software, the user sees your message.
