Upload files to the Web Server

Uploading files to the Web Server

To upload a file to the default Web folder on the Web Server, follow these steps:
1 Log on to AppleShare IP Remote Admin.
If guest access is enabled for your Web Server, define access privileges to the Web site's folder (or a folder inside the Web site's folder to which you want users to upload files) for the Everyone category. See Setting access privileges.
    2

    Click the Web server button.

3 In the Server Settings list, click Web Plug-Ins.
4 Turn on Web plug-ins by selecting the Enable Web Plug-ins checkbox.
    5 Click the Save button.
Your changes take effect after you stop and start the Web & File Server. You should stop the server when you're sure no one is using it. You'll need to go to the server to start it up again.
6 On the computer that has the files you want to upload, open a Web browser program and type the following URL: http://yourservername/.upload
Replace "yourservername" with the domain name for the Web & File Server, or the domain name or IP address for one Web site on the server if you are hosting multiple sites. If you just have one Web site, files are uploaded into the default Web folder (defined on the Web Server Settings page) on the Web & File Server. If you have multiple sites, files are uploaded into the folder you've specified for this site in the Multi Domain Settings file.
To upload files to a specific folder in the default Web folder or Web site's folder, add the folder name to the URL, separated by "/" from the domain name. For example, http://yourdomainname/folderA/.upload will copy the file into "folderA" inside the default Web folder or Web site's folder.
7 In the Web page that appears, locate the file that you want to upload to the server.
    8 Click Send File.
The file is uploaded to the server. Users who have access to the folder can see the file.
Different browser programs treat files differently. Netscape Navigator only uploads the data fork of a file. Internet Explorer encodes all files using MacBinary and uploads both the data and resource forks.

Selecting an option for handling files with the same name

Anyone with Write or Read/Write privileges to the Web folder can choose whether to replace existing files with the same name when uploading files to a folder. (If you have multiple Web sites, you can select an option for each site's folder.) Follow these steps:
1 Open a Web browser program.
2 Type the following in your browser's URL address box: http://yourservername/pi_admin.upload
Replace "yourservername" with the domain name for the Web & File Server, or the domain name or IP address for one Web site on the server if you are hosting multiple sites.
3 In the Web page that appears, click a button to indicate whether you want to replace existing files with the same name.
If you choose not to automatically replace files, and you upload a file with the same name as a file in the folder you're uploading to, the upload will fail. You'll need to upload the file to a different folder.
