About AppleShare IP Remote Help

What's in AppleShare IP Remote Help:
AppleShare IP Remote Help provides onscreen instructions for administering your AppleShare IP 6.2 servers using the AppleShare IP Remote Admin software. You can administer your servers from any computer connected to the Internet via an industry-standard Web browser.

To use AppleShare IP Remote Admin, the Web & File Server must be running, Web service must be turned on, remote administration via a Web browser must be turned on, and the Web plug-ins must be enabled. For instructions on how to log on to Remote Admin and for information about security when a server is administered through Remote Admin, see Logging on to AppleShare IP Remote Admin.

IMPORTANT: Before using AppleShare IP Remote Help, you need to complete the setup, installation, and first-time use instructions in the "Getting Started" manual or "Upgrading" document that came with your software.

What's not in AppleShare IP Remote Help:
Some administrative tasks can only be performed from the server, and therefore are not described in Remote Help. To perform the following tasks you must use the server:

simultaneously change attributes of multiple users
import or export the Users & Groups Data File

    enable AFP home directory support
    perform Sherlock indexing
    use the Sherlock Web plug-in
    enable automatic user home directories
copy folders between volumes and retain access privileges
unmount shared disks on the server
reset the Web & File Server cache
change the name of the AppleShare file sharing server
view the Web & File Server log
    use the Short Name command
    send messages to AppleShare clients
configure your server for AppleTalk multihoming
edit FTP client messages or Web error messages
    add or edit MIME mappings
    install a new serial number
    Mail Server
    view pending messages
attempt immediate connections to a host
save logs to a text file
allow more concurrent user connections by increasing the memory allocated to the Mail Server
    specify mail events to track
stop delivery of messages (unless you are using the IMAP Administrator Access port)
    share mail folders
    automatically verify the mail database
prevent unwanted mail by checking and blocking a call
contact remote POP mail servers to retrieve mail
    Print Server
place a print queue on hold
    TCP Filter
    use the TCP Filter software

For instructions on performing any of these tasks, go to your AppleShare IP server, and open AppleShare IP Help. AppleShare IP Help provides instructions on administering your server locally using AppleShare IP's three administration programs: Web & File Admin, Mail Admin, and Print Admin. It also includes instructions for using TCP Filter software.
